Student Life
The Salem Christian School student community is an essential component in development of a Christ centered worldview. In addition to the academic, performing arts, fine arts, and athletic programs, the students experience and celebrate life together at campus-wide events and creative social happenings. This synergy of ingredients of student activities within the walls of the school and out into the greater Lehigh Valley contribute to a vibrant school experience that enables our students to impact the world with biblical thought and action through an exceptional school program.
Student Activities
Looking beyond the Salem classroom walls, one will find more than just a quality education. We are a robust and vibrant Christian school community. Often, we hear it’s referred to as a “family”. We purposefully ensure that all aspects of the student’s experience is rooted in the Gospel of Christ. We are committed to developing students who love God in all aspects of their being. To these ends, we provide students opportunities to explore their interests, pursue their passions, and excel in ways that God has uniquely gifted them.
There is special attention given to the student experience at Salem Christian School. There are competitions, student council, discipleship groups, clubs, student learning communities, homeroom activities, all-school events, division level celebrations and so much more that brighten the student’s experience. Great care has been taken to ensure that outside of the classroom and extracurricular programs are as vibrant as the academic and interscholastic programs. We encourage students to take advantage of the many opportunities in order to practically apply and develop skills necessary for confident Christian leadership and challenge themselves to strive for excellence.

Spiritual Development
Student life at Salem Christian School is permeated by a spiritual emphasis. Our vision is to assist parents in developing a God-centered worldview in their children by providing a vibrant educational and spiritual environment where Godly character and unity in Christ can flourish, thereby enabling students to serve God and impact the world through biblical thought and action. We desire see our students to continue to impact the Lehigh Valley, Eastern Pennsylvania, and into the rest of the world. Therefore, Bible is a vital subject that is taught in engaging and age-appropriate ways each day. It begins with character studies in elementary and moves systematically throughout the years to culminating senior courses that hopefully entrench the students in a Christian worldview.
Leadership Development
Beyond the student council, team captains, and other leadership positions, our students are given the opportunity to learn leadership skills through practical training and conferences. Salem Christian School seeks to encourage and inspire students toward a standard of excellence in leadership, communication, and performance by enhancing our student life and academic and fine arts programs. Activities and events seek to provide opportunities for the students to engage with the students in our school and to obtain a positive interaction between students and teachers of other participating schools. Several middle school and high school students are able to attend the leadership conference that are presented for their stage in life in order to help them develop life-long leadership skills. Much of our leadership development is through service. Jesus, our ultimate example, came to serve not be served. Therefore, any leader should be a servant leader. This principle of servant-leadership is why we see leadership development first as serving the community we live and influencing them for the sake of the Gospel.
Chapel Program
Weekly chapels are held for the students. A particular theme is chosen and developed throughout the year. The format is widely varied including participation from pastors and youth pastors of local churches, other outside Christian speakers, teachers, alumni and current students. Chapels devoted to prayer, testimonies and music also occur.
Spiritual Emphasis Week
In the beginning of each year there is a week that is intended to introduce the spiritual growth theme for the year and set a tone for who we are as a secondary school. The spiritual emphasis week culminates at Advance, an overnight trip for the secondary students.
PRAISE TEAM
Salem Christian School High School students lead us in worship through music in our chapel program. The praise team also ministers at student conferences and other events throughout the year.
DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS
Single gender groups of 10-12 students meet with a student leader and a staff member once a week for discipleship in the areas of personal spiritual growth that are centered around the challenge received during chapel based on the annual theme. Topics from God’s Word, relevant to living out the Christian faith in today’s world, are openly discussed. Leadership skills are developed as groups are challenged to meet the needs of others by planning and carrying out activities to minister to those around them.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Twice a year, during Ministry Days, the secondary students go to several locations in the region to provide community service. The students have an opportunity to support the ministries in the region by providing support for the programs that they offer. The students can be found in Easton, Reading, Philadelphia, Allentown, and various other areas during these organized days. Beyond these special days the homeroom classes seek out opportunities to serve the communities where we live.
