2. Do you have to wear uniforms?

No! We do have a dress code with the goal to balance between modesty, comfort, and appropriateness for school day activities.

3. Can I volunteer in my child’s classroom?

Parent partnership is vital to the strength of the school and the students’ education. The Parent and Teacher Fellowship (PTF) offers opportunities for parent involvement throughout the year. Parents serve in classrooms, participate on committees, chaperone trips, and assist in planning events. Active involvement from our parents is welcomed and valued!

4. What time does school start?

School starts promptly at 8:25am for all grades K-12. Anyone arriving after that time will have to report to the school office and receive a tardy pass. Elementary students are dismissed at 2:55pm with Middle/High School following at 3:00pm.

5. What is block scheduling?

Grades 9-12 operate on a modified block schedule that are semester based. Purposefully, Bible is the only course by policy that is required to meet throughout the year. Most courses meet for a single semester; however, mathematics is accompanied by Math Lab. The Math Lab meets in the off semester requiring the student to keep his or her math skills sharp and providing for opportunities to engage math reasoning and skill application in a more comprehensive and project-based manner. Students will find that generally there are only two core required courses per semester, allowing for a better focus on those core academic courses.

6. Is bus transportation available?

Salem Christian School is located in the corner of Lehigh County. Because of the ideal location, the school is positioned to serve students from five counties within a 30 mile radius in the Lehigh Valley. Currently, 12 public school districts provide transportation to the school.

7. Do students participate in chapel?

K-5 students have chapel every Wednesday morning. A theme is selected and focused on throughout the year. Chapel includes a time of praise and worship.
Separate chapels are held for grades 6-8 and 9-12 on Friday mornings. Praise and worship is student led. Afterwards, high school students meet with their Discipleship groups.

8. What is a Discipleship group?

We’re glad you asked! Discipleship Groups or “D Groups” are single gender groups of 10-12 students. Along with a staff member, they meet once a week for discipleship in the areas of personal spiritual growth that are centered around the challenge received during chapel based on the annual theme. Topics from God’s Word, relevant to living out the Christian faith in today’s world, are openly discussed. Leadership skills are developed as groups are challenged to meet the needs of others by planning and carrying out activities to minister to those around them.

9. What curriculum do you use?

Acadience, NWEA MAPS Growth, Mind Print Learning, and IXL are examples of assessments used to track students’ progress throughout the year. A variety of textbooks are used and reviewed prior to each school year. Click here to view a sample of the curriculum offered for secondary students. Electives vary year to year.

10. So what’s the difference?

The answer is FAITH. The school was founded on faith, it exists on faith, and it grows because of that faith. The Christian faith is central to everything we do at Salem Christian School. Our entire program and curriculum are centered on a Christian worldview. As a ministry of Salem Bible Church and a community of believers, we have agreed to support and defend the tenants within our non-negotiable Statement of Faith.
